Top Tips for Overcoming Rejection and Criticism as an Artist

Everyone experiences setbacks and rejection. But overcoming rejection as an artist is all about how you bounce back from it. 

Einstein failed his entrance exams to university. J.K. Rowling was turned down by twelve major publishers. Vincent Van Gogh was a failed art dealer and only sold one painting in his lifetime. Michael Jordan was cut from his sophomore basketball team. 

Yet…these folks still go down in history as geniuses, experts, and the G.O.A.T.s. Yes, even the greats experience failure and rejection. Why? Because it’s just a part of life. 

And if you’re an artist, I have to tell you…prepare for rejection and failure. Because it WILL happen. 

But it’s how you get back at it that counts. You can get knocked down but will you get back up again?

What overcoming rejection can teach us 

Because rejection is just a natural part of being an artist, I wanted to dedicate this entire episode to talking about how to overcome it. I’ve experienced rejection more times than I can count. But I’m still here.
