I’ve worked with artists for years and one thing I know for sure: It takes a special kind of courage to turn ourselves inside out and show it to the world. But, once we taste that freedom, we are never the same.
I have made more fugly art than I can count but I’ve turned almost all of those paintings into something I’m proud of, many selling for thousands of dollars. But more than selling, just the act of creating alone has helped me heal and remember who the heck I am. It helped me find my smile. My joy. After almost 18 years, I now guide others in creating their own incredible, powerful HONEST art. But make no mistake, it’s not always easy...we create a lot of fugly art along the way. That’s not when we quit. That’s when we celebrate! We high five and happy dance that we had the courage to NOT play it safe. Then we use all the tools in our toolbox, go back to canvas, and make some magic.
If you’re looking to paint like everybody else, I’m not your gal. If you’re willing to play in the splash zone, we’re gonna be friends.
Welp, that was NOT me. In fact, I never even had a hint that I wanted to paint until I was 35 yrs old. Then one day...BAM!! It was all I wanted to do! Go figure.
After 18 years, it’s still what sets my face on fire. Maybe it’s because it helps me communicate when words just won’t cut it. Maybe it’s because it’s my play time. Maybe it’s because mixing paint feels like meditation. Or maybe it’s because paint on my hands (and hair and face) helps me remember my wild.
Creativity is a non-negotiable for me. It’s my Lexapro. My joy juice. Not surprising, it runs in the family. Both of my daughters, Lovell (left) and Mason (right) have creative careers as well. While I’ve had great success as an artist, nothing compares to the joy that these girls bring me. They are, by far, my very best work.
Something about how the workshops open up another side of your art or create honest art
This class was the best thing I have ever done for myself. Others should take it if they are honest, kind, warm, have a sense of humor, are accepting of others, and are willing to share encouragement. Art ability does not matter but art interest sure does. Jodi is an excellent teacher and no matter your ability, you will walk away with a learned skill.
Something about how the color course for creatives is a game changer for your practice no matter what medium you work in
I loved Jodie’s Color Course, it felt like she was right there in the room guiding me on! No BS, no fillers, just straight to the point helpful information. However, the part that has helped me understand and improve my paintings was the “Mother Color” secret. Oh my goodness, that is a game changer!! Highly recommend the course.
Something about how the running your business is a skill that goes with creating art
I can say, this course is an ABSOLUTE GAME CHANGER! I'm so honored and lucky to have been picked for the first group. Get your applications in because this course will save you years of wasting time trying to figure things out. And, Jodie King friggin ROCKS!
Something about crafting your home with powerful art created with intention
For weeks, I stared at your “Truth over Consequences” piece. Speaking truth to power always has consequences for the speaker. It is dangerous. But for sure, truth-telling rules. The somewhat horizontal line in this piece is everything. The color. How it powerfully cuts through it all. I’m so glad it's mine. One of my best investments.
How I ground myself before every painting session.
