How to Find Your Unique Style as an Artist

As a natural-born rebel, I’m not too keen on being tied down to any one style of art. Actually, I don’t think I know any artist who is. We’re all a little bit of a rebel deep down, and we must have the freedom to explore so we can create.

But that’s not to say we can’t have our own voice. In fact, having a clear voice is truly what makes our art stand out.

Voice is what we repeat in our work over and over, whether it’s in an abstract piece or a landscape-style oil pastel painting. It’s those themes you find yourself constantly working into your art, each time you pick up the paintbrush, pencil, or clay.

Our voice is how we express ourselves IN our art and, ultimately, how we find freedom in it.

Finding your unique voice as an artist

Now, when it comes to finding your voice as an artist, there’s good and bad news.

The good news is that voice is totally and completely innate. It’s something we’re born with, it’s ingrained in us from day one. 

The bad news is that voice is totally and completely innate! It’s very much a, “Can’t see the forest through the trees” type of situation. Our voice comes so naturally to us that we can easily forget it’s even there or even overlook it. 

But, that’s what I want to help you do in this episode — find your voice as an artist. Listen in to hear:

• How to stop caring what others (and yourself) think about your work
• Where to find inspiration and how to recognize what you might already be inspired by
• How to find your why and your voice and how use it to keep the momentum going
