Are you sacrificing play for the sake of perfection?
As artists, play isn’t just a luxury — it’s a necessity. It’s the lifeline to our creativity. When we play, we unlock new ideas, experiment without fear, and discover aspects of our creativity that we never knew existed.
It’s not just about having fun — it’s about staying connected to the raw, authentic spirit of creating.
Letting go of perfectionism to get it? That’s the hard part. Whether it’s striving to be perfect in our own eyes or the eyes of others, it’s easy to overthink your work to death — and end up with art that just feels “meh.”
But when artists let go of perfection? That’s where the real magic happens. That’s when the raw, honest art stands out and makes connections. That’s when the art not only validates us as artists, but also the human experience for everyone who sees it.
So, how can you learn to let go and make more honest art?
Nina Berenato, an amazing jewelry designer from Austin, is the first person that comes to mind when I think of artists who know how to play and own their creative freedom. She is the embodiment of FUN and someone who knows a thing or two about letting go of perfectionism to create honest art.
Even though our crafts are very different, she has so much wisdom to share about following creative intuition, giving yourself space to play, and staying true to your honest art no matter where your career takes you.
From designing in a vintage Airstream to working with celebrities, Nina’s story proves that amazing things can happen when you let go of perfection and make room for experimentation.
