Lighten Up! Here’s How to Make Your Art Fun Again

We’ve forgotten how to have fun as adults. 

We often stifle ourselves of the creative freedom and rebellion that we were so ready to live off as kids. The freedom that helped us have fun and explore our imagination.  Playing dress up, running around with our friends in the park, playing on the swingset — it was all a part of that carefree nature of childhood. 

And it’s a shame that, as adults, we’ve lost that, because it’s so very crucial to us as artists. We have so many expectations about what our art should be, that we forget how to lose ourselves in the creative process and just have a good time. 

We NEED to make our art fun again so we can continue to show up and make our best, most honest work.

How to make art feel fun again

What does “bringing play to the canvas” and “making art fun” mean? Really?

It can mean many different things. What’s fun for me may not be fun for you. But I can tell you that incorporating fun into your art means using the physical, mental, and emotional elements of having fun. 

It’s about feeling and letting go to express yourself.

And it’s what I’ll be digging into in this episode. We’ll talk about things like: 

• How to lean into play and stop self-editing
• Why showing up to play takes away the pressure of creating
• A few tools and techniques you can use to help you make your work more unique (READ: give you more space to play)

We do our best work when we come at it with a sense of fun and unrestricted freedom. So it’s time to let go and just create.
