What lies on the other side of your comfort zone?
So much, y’all.
When we do something new, when we break from the path, when we take the step (even when we’re scared)… those experiences bring us lessons and revelations we otherwise would miss out on.
New experiences make us who we are, as artists, and as people. They can change us, and help us make our best, most honest art.
That’s what breaking out of your comfort zone can do. And for Ana Stapleton, my guest on this episode of the Honest Art Podcast, that couldn’t be more true.
The title of this episode says it all — Ana is a creative force to be reckoned with. Not only is she an artist, but her career includes art consulting, styling, design, and writing.
Her work has been featured in several notable hotels in Austin, TX, Ana’s current hometown (and mine!), and focuses mainly on feminine identity, cultural diversity, and dreamscapes.
Today, Ana and I get deep into the weeds of SO MANY things, but mainly:
Until next time, y’all!

Love the podcast Jodi! Question: Did I hear correctly? Mother color is a trademarked thing? I’m wondering by whom? I only ask because I’ve been attending a few art classes lately and have a noticed a trend among instructors indicating their techniques are proprietary. Many of the same techniques I learned in art school decades ago and can be found in books, including creating and using mother color, which I learned in a color theory class. This is not a criticism, I’m just curious about the comment.
Listened to this while driving around and running errands around Austin (Just moved here!) and LOVED this episode. I’m going to have the relisten with a pen and paper and take some notes. Thanks for sharing so candidly!
