We talked about how to get your creative groove back.
Now, though, I want to talk to you about how to get your business groove back. Like…what to do if it feels like the business side of things is weighing you down and keeping you from moving forward. What do you do when you feel stuck and want to keep the momentum going in your business?
As an artist, it’s easy to get stuck on the business side of things. Sometimes, all we want to do is create. We don’t want to worry about promoting ourselves on social media, sending emails, or hell…even worrying about those tax deadlines.
We want the dessert before the salad — we just want to get to the good stuff!
Most artists are absolutely floored when I tell them that I spend 60-70% of my time on the business stuff and the rest on the art. And look, I get it. Business is not always the most glamorous side of being an “artpreneur,” but the truth is, you’ve got to pay attention to it.
Maybe you’re feeling stuck because you think business is boring…I get that. Or maybe it’s just because you’re frozen in place because you have no idea what to do and when. Either way, resisting the “biz” part of art biz can lead to a vicious cycle of procrastination.
You freeze up because you don’t want to do it or don’t know how. You go to create something in the studio because it’s the only thing you want to do. You hope your art shit sells, but it doesn’t (hint: mostly because you didn’t put yourself out there or had a system to do so, not because your work sucks). You get frustrated. Go back to the drawing board, yada yada yada.
What it does is just keep you stuck in a cycle of staying stuck! So in today’s episode, I’m talking about:
And listen, I can’t wrap this up without mentioning that meditation has been a HUGE reason I’m able to manage both the art and the business. It’s a great tool to help you relax and find clarity. If that sounds like something you’d be interested in too, check out my free audio guide here!
