“You can’t make a living off your art.” 

Bull shit.

The starving artist is just straight-up outdated. Actually, it’s reeeeaaaally far from the truth. 

After my divorce, I had more than a few people tell me I should really consider getting a “real job.” But the job that everyone saw as a hobby is what carried me through the pandemic. It’s what helped me teach hundreds of other artists valuable skills that go BEYOND painting. It’s also managed to rake triple-digit growth for the last three years. 

How’s that for a real job??

So yeah, I’d say it’s time we do away with that stereotype. 

That’s why today, we’re going to talk about whether or not you’re ready to make that jump into full-time art biz ownership — successfully. Because whether we like it or not, there’s a BUSINESS element to art biz (don’t cringe at me like that, you know I’m right!). 

How to successfully transition into full-time ownership

While art does let us do a lot of rebelling — aka creating the things we want and running our businesses in a way that feels good to us as artists — when you’re an artpreneur, there’s a business side that has to be considered, and that doesn’t just let you play be your own rules all the time.

In this episode, I’ve got some great guiding questions for you:

• Do you have a great product?
• Do you have a business plan?
• How will you market yourself?
• Do you have a brand?
• Are you ready for the time commitment?

I don’t want anyone to just jump into full-time art biz life if they’re not ready — but I also don’t want you get stuck in the second-guessing.

And don’t listen to the naysayers that tell you art isn’t a real job…just send them my way and I’ll change their mind!
