The Texture Toolbox: Tips on How to Elevate Your Art with Texture

Let me tell y’all…getting this episode out to you was an adventure! But we made it, and the result is one amazing show-and-tell session, all about how texture can truly transform your artwork. 

We often think of texture in a tactile way – how something feels. Like through the bark of a tree or the smooth surface of a river stone. But in art, texture goes beyond the physical; it’s about creating depth and interest, and ultimately, it’s a tool to help express your story…whatever that may be. 

Once you start playing with texture, you’ll wonder how you ever created art without it! 

How to Add Texture to Your Art

Adding depth and interest through texture can really enhance your art so it stands out.  And in this episode, I’m showing you how to add texture to your art by using a variety of methods and mediums. We’ll look at using tools like: 

• Skins (those leftover bits of dried paint on your palette)
• Plaster and cheesecloth
• Sanders and sandpaper

Because this episode is a highly visual one, I recommend that you watch it on YouTube first. Then, you can come back to the podcast show notes whenever you need a refresher.
