Let’s set the stage, shall we? You’ve got all your paint supplies set up in front of you, your canvas on the easel, and maybe an idea of what you want to paint. You’re ready to go, but there’s just one problem — you can’t seem to actually get your ass in front of that canvas.
I get it. I’ve been there before. Plenty of times. And because of that, I can tell you there are a lot of reasons for this.
One is exhaustion or burnout from everything you’ve been doing — not just work. Maybe you’ve overcommitted yourself, or you’re dealing with family troubles.
Another is that maybe you’ve got other priorities at the moment, like dishes, or taking care of that cobweb in the corner, or you need to organize your pantry. It seems like there’s always something that needs to be done before you can allow yourself to be creative.
It’s almost always that last one, and it’s because of what I like to call resistance. Something inside you is resisting that chance to be creative for whatever reason.
You don’t feel like your work has been cutting it lately. Maybe you don’t feel like you’re talented enough to be making art (we all have those moments from time to time). Maybe you’re just feeling straight-up uninspired. It happens.
Either way, you know that you feel stuck, but you don’t want to stay stuck. You want to break through that resistance and get back to feeling more alive, more vibrant, and most importantly… ready to get back to the canvas.
Creating art takes work — mental and physical. And creating honest art? It takes even more.
It takes courage to get up and be vulnerable in front of the canvas. I know a lot of us pour our emotions and deep-seated feelings and experiences into our work, and that takes a lot out of ya. No wonder you feel drained sometimes!
And even when it’s hard, you know you want to create. You know you have a calling to this.
But how do you find your creative groove again, so you feel like making the honest art that’s worth painting? That’s what this episode is all about.
