How to Turn Your Why Into Revenue

“Why do you create art?”

It’s such a simple question, but one we often find ourselves struggling to answer. In my years of mentoring artists, I’ve watched this question stop people dead in their tracks, leaving them fumbling for words. Yet, it’s the most important business tool you can have when selling your work. 

Meanwhile, those who can speak clearly about their deeper motivations tend to connect more effectively with collectors, galleries, and opportunities, and it’s how they end up selling more art. 

The Most Effective Tool for Selling More Art

The art market has evolved. Technical skill alone no longer drives sales — collectors are now investing in the story and meaning behind the work. When an artist can’t articulate their “why,” they’re sending their art, unprepared, into the marketplace without its most powerful selling point.

But it’s not something you need to invent — it’s a truth waiting to be uncovered. So if you don’t know your artist’s why yet, this episode will help you clarify. We’ll be discussing:
