Why Even Introverts Need an Art Community

What do you have in your artist’s toolkit to help propel your career forward? Professional grade supplies? A never-ending well of motivation or inspiration? Understanding your why? 

How about a community?

I have to confess that even though I have several now, being part of an art community was not something I ever thought about. I’m an introverted person by nature, and I already had the support of my friends, family, and other organizations I was a part of. Why did I need an art-specific one?  

I was pretty resistant to joining one, but the truth is, with an art community, we can go so much further, faster. 

Art community: Don’t knock it ‘till you try it

It turns out that my resistance was due to my own insecurities, not because I was an introvert. No one can see the flaws in your work quite like another artist can. I was worried I’d be found out, that people would think I was a hack, or that I wasn’t a real artist. 

To make a long story short, I did, eventually, join an art community. And now, I offer several thought memberships, masterminds, and workshops. Through teaching and mentoring hundreds of other artists, I’ve learned that having an art community is CRUCIAL. 

And it’s why I dedicated an entire episode of the show to talking about why.

There’s a time and place for being alone — just make sure you’re not spending TOO much time alone. An art community can help you more than you realize.
