Pro Tips for Titling Your Artwork

What’s in a title? Turns out, everything. Especially when it comes to your art.

In the creative process, we ride the ups and downs of making a painting, tweaking it until it’s ready to share with the world. But then comes the part we often overlook: giving it a name.

I know, I know, it’s not as glamorous as talking about slinging paint. But this can actually be one of the best parts of the creative process! Personally, I love that extra step — it adds an extra layer of meaning and a LOT more fun. 

But a name isn’t just a label — it’s the story behind your work. It’s the bridge between you and the viewer, helping them connect emotionally with what you’ve created. And when it comes to selling your art, that title can be the key to sparking something in a collector’s heart.

How to title your art (and why it matters)

While naming can be fun, it should also be a little bit strategic, too. After all, it could be the one thing that takes a collector or curator from spectator to the buyer. I have made so many mistakes in my art career when titling my art, but that’s what this show is for — to help you not make the same ones I did!
