How to Choose Your Color Palette as an Artist

Listen — I want you to feel more confident in your art. That’s why we need to talk about something…color!

Yep. It is one of the most basic elements of artwork but also one of the most overlooked and often misunderstood.

As an artist, choosing colors for the canvas isn’t just about picking your favorites. It’s also about knowing what collectors are looking for, how to use colors to evoke certain moods and tones, and how to set your work apart.

But don’t hear what I’m not saying — you don’t have to choose a color you hate or something that feels totally inauthentic just to get noticed. So, let’s look at how you can choose a color palette as an artist so it’s both intentional and beautiful.

Choosing your color palette: What REALLY matters

Color is strategic. But it’s also about representing how we feel inside – whether that’s frustrated, optimistic, or something in between. Color is about so much more than choosing something “pretty.” It’s just one of the many tools in our artist’s toolkit.

In this episode, we’ll be taking a deeper look at how to use it, including:

• What collectors are looking for with color
• How to choose colors that are in alignment with our inner artist
• How to use the colors you choose to create a beautiful, cohesive painting

And ultimately, we’ll be looking at how to show up to the canvas and stop overthinking it.
