5 Reasons You Shouldn’t Start with the End Results in Mind

Let’s be real: control feels safe, but it’s the fastest way to strangle your creativity.

If you’re walking into the studio already picturing what your painting should look like, you’ve skipped the best part … the unknown. The messy middle. The part where you stop trying to perform and start letting your soul speak.

And that’s when the frustration begins.

When we’re attached to what the painting should look like, we kill the possibility of what it could become.

When You Control the End Result, You Block the Magic

Abstract expressionism is rooted in spontaneity, intuition, and emotion … and all three go out the window when we paint from the left brain. That’s the part of us that wants logic, plans, and control. But your best art doesn’t come from that side. It comes from the wild, messy, right-brained part that doesn’t give a damn about the rules.

If you let it speak, your art has its own voice.

When we try to control it, we silence its voice. We make it fit into expectations instead of listening to what it’s trying to say. But when we loosen our grip … when we paint from our intuition instead of our ego … that’s when the work surprises us. 

So if you’re stuck, frustrated, or chasing a version of “good” that never feels close enough … Maybe the answer isn’t to try harder. Maybe it’s to let go and let your art surprise you. And this episode is going to give you five reasons to do just that.
