I am so excited about this week’s guest because she happens to be a dear friend of mine, but also because if you’ve ever seen her work…wow! Dr. Kathleen Funk is one of the most impactful artists I know, and it’s not just for the work she creates. It’s because of the method to her madness.

Kathleen is a fourth-generation healer and intuitive abstract artist who operates out of her medical clinic for acupuncture and integrated medicine in Houston, TX. She’s also a student of martial arts, meditation, and energetics, and has been practicing intuitive and energetic practices for over 30 years!

Her passion lies in holding space for people to get unstuck in their minds, bodies, and spirit through the art modalities passed down to her. 

And today…we have a very honest discussion about what it means to use art as an agent of healing. 

Using art to heal

Like many of the artists I talk to on this show, myself included, Kathleen didn’t have formal training in art. She didn’t go to art school and didn’t even start practicing art consistently until she was an adult. But, the passion was always there. 

Kathleen opened her practice while trying to juggle her art — and she realized that she wanted to do both. So she did. Kathleen began integrating her art with her healing practices and I’d say the results speak for themselves.

She is living proof that you don’t have to choose between your day job and your art. Why not both?

In this episode, we really get onto the good stuff, including: 

• How Kathleen uses her healing practice to inform her art, and vice versa
• How art reminds us we’re connected to something bigger than ourselves
• How to use your own intuitive practices to guide yourself in making the most authentic, honest art possible.
