Mark Making: Your Artist Signature 

Your artist’s signature is a lot like your voice. It’s a mark, design, or shape that shows up over and over again in your work, and distinguishes each piece of art as uniquely yours. 

It’s more than just a squiggly line though — it’s a little subconscious secret that wants to come out onto the canvas. It’s telling a story, and painting a picture (pun intended). And it demands to be shared with others. 

But if you’re unsure what your artist’s signature is, beware of copying. Like forging a signature, it may look good to you, but others can see right through it. 

Instead of just recreating what others are doing, it’s time to find your own unique style. 

How to create your artist’s signature

In this episode of the Honest Art Podcast, I’ll explore why our marks have to be unique to us and how this can enhance and foster what’s most authentic in our work.
