How to Get Your Art Into a Gallery 

20 years ago when I first started painting, getting my work into a gallery represented the pinnacle of success. It was all I could think about. 

In my visions, I saw myself on the night of the exhibit, my work hung with spotlights perfectly illuminating my art. I was dressed in all black — because even if I was more of a jeans and t-shirt girl, I wanted to look chic. 

Patrons of the gallery were walking around, lingering around my work to discuss it amongst themselves — and with me, the artist. 

And of course, there were lots and lots of red dots, signaling my work was SOLD. 

What a story, right? 

Did all of this happen? Yes. But it took years. Yup, plural. 

If I’m being entirely honest (which y’all know I am!), it actually happened much, much slower than I thought it would. 

Getting into galleries takes time

Eventually, I did get into galleries and my work was sold. But it happened nearly a decade after  I started my art career. A DECADE. That just goes to show you that this thing can take time. 

It also takes a little know-how, because you can’t just show up expecting galleries to take you in. You need to put in the backend work to present your work in the right light. 

So in this episode, I’m going to give you a few of my best tips that helped my dreams come true. I’ll talk about things like: 

• How to put your BEST art forward 
• What makes your work gallery ready
• How to know if you and a gallery will mesh well together
• PLUS a few practical tips for applying to a gallery when you’re ready
